A Hundred Years of Gourmet Candy Excellence
Four Generations of Candy-making Excellence
In 1912, George Eagle had a dream...to make chocolates and own his own candy shop. George started making candy in his basement and sold it door to door. His hard work and delicious chocolates helped George to raise enough money to open the first Eagle Candies, originally located on West 5th Avenue in Columbus. George and his wife Elsie created time-tested family recipes that are still used today in the production of our candy.
George's oldest son John Eagle shared his dad's love and gift for making gourmet candy. In 1946, John Eagle opened his own factory and store at 4590 N. High Street in Columbus, Ohio. The shop and production are still at this original location. His wife Delores was essential in helping John make the candy shop a local favorite.
In 1986, the third generation of Eagles wanted to carry on the family tradition and introduced new delicacies. This was an exciting time of trying new recipes until perfect results were achieved.
2012 brought the 4th generation's energy and new vision. Dee Dee and her husband James valued the heritage and tradition, rechristening the new Eagle Family Candy. New creations were perfected, and a new energy and focus emerged, centered on family, fun and tradition.
Operating in the same location and with all the same equipment and recipes from the original owner, the oldest piece of equipment dates to 1914. A drill press from World War II is now a caramel cooker pumping our delicious creations.
Eagle Family Candy takes pride in making quality, local, delicious chocolates. The 4th generation is even helped by the 5th generation, continuing the long family tradition.
Our goal is for Eagle Family Candy to be making delicious, unique, local chocolates for years to come. The next hundred years will be exciting. Stay tuned!
